The #14 Stanford Cardinal's (3-1) top-rated defense will be put to the test on Saturday afternoon when they go up against the #9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-0). The Cardinal won this matchup 27-20 at home last season.

Stanford weren't at their best against Washington on the road last weekend, but they shut them out in the second half and pulled of a 20-13 win. Stanford had three turnovers in that win, but they also held Washington to just 179 total yards.

The Cardinal pride themselves on defense, which shows because they have only given up 6.5 points per game this year. Quarterback Kevin Hogan has completed 71 of his 100 passes this season for 883 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions, and he has also rushed for two more touchdowns. Wide receiver Ty Montgomery has 26 catches for 275 yards and three scores.

Last Saturday, Notre Dame committed five turnovers in their game against Syracuse, but they were still able to roll to a 31-15 road win. The Fighting Irish had 523 total yards in that victory, which included 362 yards through the air.

The Fighting Irish have passed for 285.5 yards per game this year and their defense has only given up 11.5 points per game. Wide receiver William Fuller has been great through four games, catching 25 passes for 344 yards and five touchdowns. Quarterback Everett Golson has thrown for 1,142 yards with 11 touchdown passes and two interceptions, and he has rushed for a team-leading four touchdowns.
