The most rested arm in college football belongs to Badgers QB Tanner McEvoy, whose Saturday afternoons are spent simply handing off to Melvin Gordon, Corey Clement, and the rest of the nation's #1 rushing attack. South Florida gives up a modest 142 YPG on the ground, but will have their hands full with a Wisconsin (2-1) ground attack racking up 359.7 YPG.
South Florida (2-2) goes on the road for the first time in 2014, coming off a hard fought 17-14 win over a struggling UConn team. The Bulls don't score much, putting up just 21.8 PPG which is 101st in the FBS. Prior to the win over the Huskies, USF had dropped two in a row, a 24-17 defeat at the hands of Maryland and a 49-17 loss to N.C State. The Bulls find themselves 30+ point underdog as they head to play in front of the wild Madison crowd for an early 12:00 ET start.
McEvoy has struggled in the passing game completing just 58.8% of his passes to go along with 4TD and 4 INT but when you have Gordon in the backfield it makes winning easy. Last week the junior running back carried the rock just 13 times, but it was more than enough touches to rack up 253 yards and 5 scores. Gordon fuels a Badgers team that could be 3-0 if not squandering a 24-7 second half lead to LSU. The Tigers went on to win that game 28-24 but Wisconsin has bounced back nicely in consecutive outings, a 37-3 win over Western Illinois and a 68-17 dressing down of Bowling Green. The USF game represents the last tune-up before Big Ten season starts for #19 Wisconsin, a conference schedule that they can legitimately run the table on.
USF has lost 8 of their last 10 games and has little to no chance of upsetting the Badgers in the first ever meeting of the schools. Look for another big day from Gordon as he rises the ranks in Heisman talks.
