The Rhode Island Rams will open up their season on Saturday night against the Marshall Thundering Herd, who had an impressive showing in their first game last weekend.

Rhode Island had a tough time getting wins in 2013 and ended up finishing the season with a 2-6 record in the Colonial Athletic Association and a 3-9 overall mark. They will have some hope of improving this year under new head coach Jim Fleming, who will be implementing a new defense this year.

The Rams have 13 players returning from last year's team, including eight on the offensive side of the ball. Rhode Island will rely heavily on senior running back Omar Osbourne, who rushed for 1,206 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2013.

Last Saturday, Marshall had a tricky opponent in Miami (Ohio), but they were able to use a hot start to beat them 42-27 on the road. Marshall scored 14 points in each of the first two quarters of the game while only giving up three points in that time. They ended up rushing for 171 yards in the game and held Miami (Ohio) to just 100 rushing yards.

Marshall running back Devon Johnson carried the ball 19 times in the win for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Rakeem Cato completed 20 of his 32 passes for 261 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
