On Saturday afternoon, the Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-3) and the Wisconsin Badgers (9-2) will square off in a game between two very solid defenses. Last year, the Badgers went to Minnesota and defeated the Golden Gophers 20-7.

Minnesota held Nebraska to just three points in the second half of their game last Saturday and beat them 28-24 for their first win over a ranked opponent this season. They didn't have a turnover in that game and they were able to rush for 281 yards.

Through their first 11 games, the Golden Gophers are in the top 25 in rushing by gaining 228.9 yards per game on the ground. Their best player has been running back David Cobb, who has gained 1430 yards on the ground with 12 touchdowns. Quarterback Mitch Leidner has thrown for 1,445 yards with 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Last Saturday, Wisconsin won their sixth consecutive game by going on the road and beating Iowa 26-24. They rushed for 266 yards in that win and they went 7-for-13 on their third down opportunities.

The Badgers have been able to score 37.8 points per game this year while only allowing their opponents to score 16.1 points per game against them. Heisman candidate Melvin Gordon has rushed for 2,109 yards through 11 games this season with 25 touchdowns and he's averaged 8.3 yards per carry.
