On Saturday afternoon, the Massachusetts Minutemen (0-3), who have lost nine consecutive games dating back to last season, will have a hard time picking up their first win of the year when they visit the Penn State Nittany Lions (3-0).
Massachusetts gave up 14 fourth quarter points to Vanderbilt and ended up losing that game 34-31. The Minutemen only rushed for 84 yards in that loss, but their defense did pretty well to hold Vanderbilt to just 310 total yards. Massachusetts has given up 35 points per game, which is 104th in the country.
Minutemen quarterback Blake Frohnapfel has thrown for 616 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions this season, but he has only completed 48.9 percent of his passes.
Penn State had a tough time picking up its third win over the weekend, but they outscored Rutgers 10-0 in the fourth quarter of that game to pull off the 13-10 road win. The Nittany Lions only gained 64 yards on the ground in their win, but they did force Rutgers into committing five turnovers. Penn State is currently 10th in the nation with 360.7 passing yards per game.
Penn State's top receiver so far this season has been Geno Lewis, who has 20 receptions for 380 yards and a touchdown. DaeSean Hamilton doesn't have a touchdown catch yet, but he does have 26 catches for 337 yards.
