The general public isn't giving Indiana much of a chance to go into Missouri and capture a win over the #18 Tigers but even though the Hoosiers are just 1-1, they boast one of the most formidable rushing offenses in the country. Missouri on the other hand needs to avoid looking ahead to SEC play, where #14 South Carolina and #13 Georgia lurk for the next two matchups.
Indiana suffered a disappointing 45-42 loss to Bowling Green a week ago to even their record to 1-1 after a season opening victory over Indiana State. If an upset in Missouri is possible, it's going to come on the back of Tevin Coleman, the 5th leading rusher in the FBS who has 437 yards and 5 TD through just 2 games. The 6'1, 210 pound junior is averaging 9.3 YPC and will go a long way in easing pressure off QB Nate Sudfeld who threw for 21 TD against 9 INT a year ago. The Hoosier defense has allowed just 103 rush YPG so far in 2014, but they haven't faced an offense as dynamic and balanced as Missouri.
The Tigers are putting up 41.7 PPG in 2014 after a 38-18 win over South Dakota State, a 49-24 victory over Toledo, and a 38-10 drubbing of UCF. QB Maty Mauk fuels the offense, throwing 12 TD in those wins that ties him for the FBS lead. Mauk has thrown 9 TD in the past two games and has upped his completion percentage from 51.1% a year ago to 62.3% currently. When opposing defenses focus on stopping Mauk, it opens up holes for either Russell Hansbrough or Marcus Murphy who have both rushed for over 200 yards on the season. Combined with a defense that ranks 22nd in the country allowing only 17.3 PPG, Missouri aims to make some noise in the SEC this season.
If Missouri can avoid looking ahead to South Carolina and simply take care of business, they should be able to emulate last season's 45-28 win in Indiana. Don't sleep on Coleman though, as he could use this game as his own Heisman resume builder.
