On Saturday afternoon, the Hawaii Warriors (2-8) will visit the San Jose State Spartans (3-6) in a game between two struggling defenses. Last season, the Spartans were able to defeat the Warriors 37-27 on the road.
Hawaii lost their fourth consecutive game last Saturday when they were blown out 49-22 by Colorado State on the road. Their defense gave up 580 total yards in that loss, including 293 yards on the ground alone.
The Warriors are only scoring 20.1 points per game this season while giving up 28.6 points per game. Running back Steven Lakalaka has a team-high 646 rushing yards through 10 games, but he only has two touchdowns. Quarterback Ikaika Woolsey has thrown for 1,908 yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Last weekend, San Jose State lost their third game in a row when they were defeated 38-24 by Fresno State. They did have 436 yards of offense in that loss, but they also turned the ball over three times.
The Spartans have a top 30 passing game, but their offense has only been able to score 24.2 points per game this season. Their best player has been wide receiver Tyler Winston, who has 58 receptions this year for 547 yards and five touchdowns. Running back Tyler Ervin has been able to average 6.1 yards per carry and has 614 yards with four scores.
