The Georgia Southern Eagles play their first game as a member of the Sun Belt Conference on Saturday afternoon when they take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
As a member of the Southern Conference last season, Georgia Southern had a 4-4 conference record and a 7-4 record overall. Their most memorable game came against the SEC powerhouse Florida, who they beat 26-20 in Florida in their final game of the season.
The Eagles aren't expected to do too well this season, but they do have some hope considering that they are returning 16 starters this year. Sophomore quarterback Kevin Ellison, who ran for 886 yards and passed for 756 in 2013, will be back to lead the offense this year. The defense is definitely the team's weak point, but multiple JUCO transfers could end up helping the secondary.
North Carolina State went into the 2013 season expected to finish in the top 50 in the nation, but eight straight losses to finish the year left them outside of the top 100. They ended up with a 0-8 record in the ACC and a 3-9 record overall.
The Wolfpack have a huge upgrade coming in at quarterback thanks to the team landing Florida Gators transfer Jacoby Brissett. Brissett was easily the best QB on NC State last year, but he had to sit out after transferring. His main target may end up being freshman Bo Hines, who impressed in spring camp.
