The Colorado Buffaloes were able to beat the Colorado State Rams 41-27 last year and will be looking to open their 2014 season with another win over their in-state rivals.
Colorado started off their 2013 season looking like a complete team, but they lost eight of their final 10 games to finish with a 1-8 record in the Pac 12 and a 4-8 record overall. They scored just 25.4 points per game last season and gave up 38.3, which was 115th in the country.
Sophomore quarterback Sefo Liufau, who threw for 1,779 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2013, will again be tasked with leading the Buffaloes' offense this year. Colorado fans will hope that defensive tackle Josh Tupou will help the team overcome its defensive struggles this season.
Colorado State finished their 2013 season on a hot streak and ended up beating Washington State 48-45 in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl. The Rams finished with 6,591 offensive yards last year, which was good enough for 13th in the country. Their defense did struggle at times, though, and ended up giving up 29.8 points per game.
The Rams lost running back Kapri Bibbs to the NFL, so expect to see a heavy passing attack led by quarterback Garrett Grayson. Grayson broke the Colorado State passing record last season by throwing for 3,696 yards, while also throwing 23 touchdown passes.
