The California Golden Bears (5-4) will hope that their defense can play better than it has in recent weeks when they face the Southern California Trojans (6-3) on Thursday night. USC easily beat the Golden Bears 62-28 on the road last year.

California picked up their first win in nearly a month two weeks ago when they defeated Oregon State 45-31 on the road. They didn't turn the ball over in that win and they finished with 546 yards of offense.

Through nine games, the Golden Bears are scoring 41.9 points per game, but they are also giving up 39.9 points per game. Quarterback Jared Goff has been great for Cal this year by throwing for 3,119 yards with 27 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Running back Daniel Lasco has rushed for 796 yards this season with 10 touchdowns.

USC had one of their better offensive performances of the season in their last game when they easily beat Washington State 44-17 on the road. They finished that one with 527 yards, which included 400 yards through the air.

The Trojans have been able to throw for 286.4 yards per game this season and have scored 34.9 points per game. Their offense has been led by quarterback Cody Kessler, who has thrown for 2,548 yards with 25 touchdown passes and just two picks. Receiver Nelson Agholor has caught 66 of Kessler's passes for 863 yards and eight scores.
