In their first game of the season on Saturday afternoon, the Boston College Eagles will visit the Massachusetts Minutemen, who are projected to be the worst team in the 128-team Football Bowl Subdivision.
Most experts believed that Boston College would end up being one of the bottom teams in the ACC last year, but they played pretty well and finished with a 4-4 conference record and a 7-6 overall record. They ended up with a top 20 rushing team in 2013 after accumulating 212.5 rushing yards per game. They only scored 27.7 points per game, though, while giving up nearly 29 points per game.
The Eagles' offense may struggle this season after bringing back just four of their starters from 2013. The team has high expectations for mobile quarterback Tyler Murphy, who transferred from the University of Florida back in January.
Massachusetts did pretty much what everyone expected them to do in 2013 by winning just one of their 11 regular season games. They had one of the worst scoring teams in the country a year ago after only putting up 11.7 points per game. They passed for just 156 yards per game, while their rushing attack could only pick up 125.2 yards per game.
The Minutemen will be bringing back seven offensive players and five on defense. Junior wide receiver Tajae Sharpe, who caught 61 passes for 680 yards and four touchdowns last year, will be hoping that he will be targeted even more in 2014.
