On December 23, the Marshall Thundering Herd (12-1) will look to end the season as one of just a few one-loss teams when they take on the Northern Illinois Huskies (11-2) in the Boca Raton Bowl. Marshall ended up first in the Conference USA East standings, while the Huskies were atop the MAC West.

Two weeks ago, Marshall defeated Louisiana Tech 26-23 to win the Conference USA championship. They did commit four turnovers in that win, but they also ended up outgaining Louisiana Tech 429-268 and held them to just 72 passing yards.

Through 13 games, the Thundering Herd have rushed for 275.6 yards per game and have scored over 45 points per game. Quarterback Rakeem Cato has thrown for 3,622 yards with 37 touchdowns this season, and he has rushed for 457 yards with six more scores. Running back Devon Johnson has averaged 8.6 yards per carry and has 1,636 yards with 16 touchdowns.

In their last game, Northern Illinois was able to win their third MAC championship in the last four yards by blowing out Bowling Green 51-17. They rushed for 334 yards in that game and held Bowling Green to just 287 total yards.

The Huskies have been one of the top 15 rushing teams in the nation this season by averaging 252.9 yards per game on the ground. Through 13 games, quarterback Drew Hare has thrown for 2,097 yards with 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
