Winnipeg Blue Bombers Stats
Matt Nichols will return as the signal caller for Winnipeg. The 31-year-old finished with a pretty good season, although it was marked by inconsistency. He finished with 3,146 passing yards on 254 of 392 passing attempts with 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. The CFL's leading rusher Andrew Harris returns as Winnipeg's biggest weapon on offense. Harris finished with 1,390 yards last season including 224 yards and a touchdown in the Playoffs. The 32-year-old had 13 carries for 71 yards in the Western Final loss to Calgary. Darvin Adams is another big weapon to look out for when facing the Blue Bombers. The former Auburn product finished with over 1,000 yards for the 2nd straight season and scored 10 touchdowns.
The Blue Bombers finished 4th in the CFL in total offense in 2018 with 823 yards per contest. They were the best scoring team in the league, finishing with 27.9 points per game. Through the air Winnipeg was a modest 6th in the league, but they were the best team in the league on the ground, averaging 134 yards per game.
BC Lions Stats
Mike Reilly signed a 4-year, $2.9 million dollar contract to return to where he started his CFL career. Reilly led the CFL with 5,562 passing yards last season with 30 touchdowns, so his services were in high demand. He elected to return to BC, and that give an immediate jolt to their offense. Bryan Burnham is probably the biggest weapon for Reilly after agreeing to a 2-year contract in February. He was their top receiver last year with 1,029 receiving yards and 67 receptions. He's now had 3 consecutive 1,000 yard seasons and we wouldn't bet against him having another with Reilly at the helm.
The offense definitely needed some improvement after finishing 6th out of 9 teams in total offense in 2018. BC finished the season averaging 755 yards per contest while scoring 20.9 points per game. Those metrics should improve substantially this season with the addition of Reilly. The BC running game must also improve, as they finished 8th in the league in rushing last year with 94.4 yards per contest.
