The Calgary Stampeders lost a close one to the Ottawa Redblacks by a score of 32-28. The Stampeders currently sit in third place in the West division with an 0-1 record. They will be looking to get back on track when they play the last place BC Lions this week.
The Stampeders were led by quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell who amassed 275 yards on 23-of-39 passing in their game against the Redblacks. He finished the game with one touchdown pass and one interception. Juwan Brescacin led the Stampeders receivers with 4 catches and 68 yards with one touchdown. If there was a bright spot in this game, it was how well Mitchell spread the ball around the field with 7 different players catching a pass. With that said, the run game was stale and Don Jackson ran for 22 yards on 9 carries giving him a lowly average of 2.4 yards per tote.
The defense wasn't able to produce much pressure on the opposing QB, but Cory Greenwood led the team in tackles with 9. He was followed up by Wynton McManis and Jamar Wall with 6 tackles each. In the kick return game, Terry Williams had 3 for 64 total yards and Lorenzo Jerome let the team with 20 yards on three punt returns. Rene Paredes was 2-for-2 in field goals with a long of 42.
In this matchup between the BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders, we'll be watching two teams that are looking to get into the win column for the first time this season. If the Lions want any chance to win this game, the defense is really going to have to step up. They have conceded 72 points in two games and it looks like the Stampeders will be ready to take advantage of that. They played a good game against a team that is 2-0 and puts up a lot of points. This will be a good game for them to try and get that elusive first win.
