Montreal Alouettes Stats
Montreal has struggled mightily on offense so far this year, scoring just 14 points per game and possessing the ball for just 26.1 minutes per game. Their defense hasn't been much better, giving up a league-high 242 points while only bringing down the opposing quarterback a total of eight times. The one area where Montreal has been pretty good has been in the secondary, which ranks third in the league in interceptions with seven.
It looks like the Alouettes will give Johnny Manziel as many chances as he needs to prove that he's a capable starter despite having a very rough first outing for them last week. Manziel threw for just 104 yards and was picked off four times without throwing a touchdown pass. Montreal's top offensive performer this season has been running back Tyrell Sutton, who has averaged 4.8 yards per carry but he's only been able to get into the end zone once.
One of Montreal's top defensive performers this season has been linebacker Henoc Muamba, who has 40 total tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble. Their top defensive lineman has been Jamaal Westerman, who has a team-high three sacks to go along with his 23 tackles. Second-year defensive back Branden Dozier is the team-leader with two interceptions, while five Alouettes defenders have one interception apiece.
Ottawa Redblacks Stats
The Redblacks probably aren't completely satisfied with their overall performance so far this season, but they have done some things very well. On offense, they are currently third in the CFL in passing years and fourth in passing touchdowns, though they are near the bottom of the league in both rushing and rushing touchdowns. Their defense has 13 sacks on the year and is sixth in the league in points allowed (168).
Ottawa's offense has been led by quarterback Trevor Harris, who has thrown for 1,887 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Grad Sinopoli has been one of the top wide receivers in the league so far by catching 52 passes for 641 yards and three touchdowns. Running back William Powell is currently second in the league in rushing yards with 504 and he has scored two times in seven games.
The Redblacks' leading tackler this season has been linebacker Kevin Brown, who has 37 on the season along with an interception and a fumble recovery. Another standout performer on the defensive side of the ball has been veteran defensive back Rico Murray, who has 24 tackles and is leading the team with three interceptions. Defensive linemen A.C. Leonard and Michael Wakefield are tied for the team lead with three sacks apiece.
