Calgary Stampeders Stats
Calgary will be coming into this game as with one of the top offenses and defenses in the CFL. They are currently third in points and rank in the top three in both passing and rushing yards. Their defense has only given up 14 points through their first game and they rank second in the league in sacks with three.
Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell didn't have the strongest showing during his team's opening week game against Hamilton, but it was enough to get the job done. The 28-year-old veteran completed 17 of his 36 passes for 297 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Fans can be pretty confident that he'll be able to increase his low 73.5 rating in the next couple of weeks.
First-year running back Don Jackson had an excellent opening week for Calgary and currently leads the CFL with 87 rushing yards on just 12 carries. Receiver Kamar Jorden is the team's top receiver so far with four catches for 77 yards and one touchdown. All-Star linebacker Alex Singleton led the way on defense once again last week by racking up a league-leading nine tackles.
Toronto Argonauts Stats
Toronto struggled a bit against the Saskatchewan Roughriders' defense in their opening week game. They put up just 235 passing yards against them and they were only able to score a total of 19 points. Their defense played pretty well in that game, though, picking up two sacks and coming out of week one with a league-leading two forced fumbles.
All-Star quarterback Ricky Ray struggled quite a bit in that opening week loss. He completed 22 of his 37 passes, but he couldn't get the ball into the end zone during the game and he was picked off once. The 38-year-old will be looking to bounce back in Week 2.
The Argonauts did make it clear who they want to be their top receiving threat in that game against Saskatchewan. S.J. Green was targeted a league-topping 12 times in that game, but he ended up with just five catches and 51 yards. The veteran had his best season in the league last year (104 catches for 1462 yards), so you can be sure he will be putting in better games in the future, especially if he continues to be targeted that often.
Toronto's top defensive player during Week 1 was lineman Shawn Lemon, who had four total tackles, a forced fumble, and a sack. The Argonauts didn't look at their best on defense during the opening week, but with six All-Stars returning to the squad this season, they could have a strong showing against Calgary this week.
