Second-year starter Tanner Roark (12-8), who has a 2.41 ERA in his last three starts, will take the mound for the Washington Nationals when they face Hisashi Iwakuma (12-6) and the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.

Tanner Roark had a pretty good outing against the Philadelphia Phillies last Monday, but he ended up taking the loss. Roark pitched six innings in that game and gave up two runs on five base hits while striking out two batters and walking one. Roark now has a 2.81 ERA on the year and he has only given up 144 hits in 166.2 innings of work.

Mariners veteran Chris Denorfia has one hit in four at-bats against Roark with no walks and no strikeouts. Outfielder Logan Morrison is 0-for-2 against him with a walk and a strikeout.

Hisashi Iwakuma had his shortest outing of the season last week when he took the no decision against the Boston Red Sox. He only made it through 2.1 innings in that game and allowed five runs on six hits while striking out one and walking one. Despite that blip, Iwakuma still has a very good 2.83 ERA this season and he has only given up 133 hits in 149.1 innings.

Nationals second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera is just 1-for-10 against Iwakuma in his career with a walk and three strikeouts. Veteran Nate Schierholtz is 0-for-4 against him with a strikeout.
