Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann (9-5), who is 3-0 in the month of August, will take the mound for the Washington Nationals on Friday night when they face Felix Hernandez (13-4) and the Seattle Mariners.

Jordan Zimmermann pitched eight strong innings against the San Francisco Giants last weekend and ended up notching the win. He allowed just two runs on seven innings in that game while striking out eight batters and walking zero. His ERA lowered to 2.93 with that win and he has now struck out 140 hitters in 159.2 innings of work.

Mariners outfielder Logan Morrison has just three hits in 15 at-bats against Zimmermann, but he has hit two home runs off of him. Outfielder Chris Young is just 1-for-6 against him in his career with no walks and four strikeouts.

Last Friday, Felix Hernandez gave up three earned runs in 5.2 innings against the Boston Red Sox on the road and finished with a no decision. He allowed five hits in that start and walked two hitters while striking out seven. Hernandez has a 2.07 ERA after that game and he has only given up 6.4 hits per nine innings, which currently leads the American League.

Nationals outfielder Denard Span has just two hits in 22 at-bats against Hernandez with a double, five walks and eight strikeouts. Asdrubal Cabrera is 3-for-20 against him with five strikeouts.
