Left-hander Gio Gonzalez, who is coming off of a great September, will be making the start for the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night when they face Ryan Vogelsong and the San Francisco Giants in Game 4 of the NLDS.

Gio Gonzalez had an up-and-down year for the Nats this season, but he earned his spot in their playoff rotation by finishing strong. In 27 starts this year, he went 10-10 with a 3.57 ERA and a 1.197 WHIP. He struck out 9.2 batters per nine innings this year and only gave up 132 hits in 158.2 innings of work. In his final four starts, he went 3-1 with a 2.03 ERA.

Gonzalez did not get a chance to face the Giants this season. One player on their team who he has done well against over the years is outfielder Hunter Pence, who has just one hit against him in 12 at-bats with two walks and two strikeouts.

After a poor 2013, Ryan Vogelsong did quite a bit better this year for the Giants, though he did struggle over the last month of the season. In 32 starts, he went 8-13 with a 4.00 ERA and a 1.278 WHIP. In five September starts, he was 0-4 with a high 5.53 ERA.

Vogelsong made two starts against Washington this year and was 0-1 with a 7.15 ERA. Shortstop Ian Desmond is 4-for-10 against the right-hander in his career with a double, a triple and a home run.
