Right-hander Doug Fister was hot in September and will look to keep that momentum going into the playoffs when he and the Washington Nationals face Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants on Monday.

In his first season with the Nationals, Doug Fister was everything they had hoped he would be. In 25 starts, he went 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA and he only walked 24 batters in 164 innings on the mound. In his last four starts of the regular season, he went 4-0 with a 1.26 ERA and he only gave up 15 hits in 28.2 innings during that period.

Against the Giants this season, Fister was 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts. Catcher Buster Posey is just 1-for-6 against the right-hander in his career, but that one hit was a home run.

Madison Bumgarner was excellent in the wild card game against the Pittsburgh Pirates last week. He pitched nine shutout innings in that outing and gave up just four hits while striking out 10 and walking one.

Bumgarner faced the Nationals once this year and took the loss despite only giving up two runs in seven innings of work. Shortstop Ian Desmond is has five hits in 15 at-bats against Bumgarner in his career with a double and two RBI. Outfielder Denard Span is just 1-for-8 against him with no walks and two strikeouts.
