Second-year starter Tanner Roark will get the call for the Washington Nationals on Friday night and will be going up against Tyson Ross and the San Diego Padres.

The Texas Rangers were able to beat Tanner Roark on Sunday, but the right-hander certainly deserved a better fate in that outing after going seven innings and only giving up one run. He allowed seven hits in that start and struck out four and walked two. Roark has has a solid season so far despite his 3-4 record. He has a 3.25 ERA and a 1.125 WHIP through 69.1 innings of work.

Roark has done well against all of the Padres that he has faced so far. The eight Padres who have gone up against the right-hander are a combined 3-for-24 with no extra-base hits and six strikeouts.

Tyson Ross pitched six solid innings against the Chicago White Sox on the road last week and picked up his sixth win of the season. He allowed just one earned run in that game and struck out five batters while walking three. He now has a 6-4 record on the year and an excellent 2.85 ERA through 75.2 innings.

Nationals center fielder Denard Span has three hits in his seven at-bats against Ross with a double and no strikeouts. No one on the Nats has hit a home run off of him yet.
