Doug Fister will be making his fourth start for the Washington Nationals on Sunday and will be facing lefty Francisco Liriano and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Doug Fister picked up his first win in a Washington Nationals uniform last Tuesday when he was able to beat the Cincinnati Reds at home. He pitched seven strong innings in that game and gave up two earned runs on six hits while striking out five and walking one. He is now 1-1 through three starts this season and has a 3.93 ERA.

Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has only faced Fister six times so far in his career, but he has shown that he can hit him by going 4-for-5 with a walk. None of the current Pirates have gone deep against the right-hander yet.

Last Tuesday, Francisco Liriano lost for the fourth time this season when he was beaten by the Baltimore Orioles at home. He gave up a season-worst six runs in that game on nine hits while walking two and striking out four. He is 0-4 on the year now with a 4.86 ERA. He's walked 24 and struck out 53 in 53.2 innings.

Bench player Scott Hairston has hit a home run off of Liriano, but that is the only hit he has against him in 11 at-bats. Center fielder Denard Span has two hits and two strikeouts in six at-bats against Liriano.
