On Sunday afternoon, lefty Gio Gonzalez will try to pick up his fourth win of the season when the Washington Nationals face Scott Kazmir and the Oakland Athletics.

Gio Gonzalez picked up his second loss of the season when he was beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies a week ago, but he actually pitched well gave up just one earned run in that game. Gonzalez went 7.1 innings in that outing and allowed just four hits while striking out seven and walking two. His ERA came down to a solid 2.91 and he's now given up just 32 hits in 43.1 innings.

Alberto Callaspo has done well against Gonzalez in their matchups by going 8-for-20 with a double, a triple and three RBI. Nick Punto has four hits in eight plate appearances against the veteran left-hander.

Scott Kazmir ended his undefeated streak at six games when he was beaten by the Seattle Mariners last Monday. He didn't pitch horribly, though, going six innings and allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking one. He now has a 2.64 ERA on the season and has only walked nine batters through 44.1 innings pitched.

Denard Span has a triple against Kazmir, but that is just one of his two hits against him in eight matchups. Nate McLouth is hitless against Kazmir in his career through five plate appearances.
