Stephen Strasburg will try to help the Washington Nationals get an Opening Day road win as they travel to face Dillon Gee and the New York Mets. Strasburg may not have improved as much as some people expected him to in 2013, but he did have a solid season for Washington. He ended up pitching 183 innings, which was the most of his career, and he struck out 9.39 batters per nine innings. His low total of eight wins had more to do with his offenses' struggles than what he did on the mound.
Surprisingly, Strasburg doesn't have a lot of experience against the current Mets lineup. One player on New York who has had some at-bats against him is Ike Davis, who has a career .364 batting average with two home runs against the Nats' ace.
Dillon Gee was the second-best pitcher for the Mets last season behind Matt Harvey. He will come into this season as the Mets' ace because Harvey is out for at least the majority of the season. He should be able to do okay in that role after putting up a 3.62 ERA in 199 innings last season.
Gee has had success against certain players on the Nationals, but others seem to have figured him out. Jayson Werth has been the most successful against him in his career, hitting .324 with 3 RBI in 37 career plate appearances.
