Wednesday afternoon, the Washington Nationals will take the field behind Stephen Strasburg as they square off against the Milwaukee Brewers and Marco Estrada. Strasburg will be making his 17th start as Estrada makes his 16th.

Stephen Strasburg pitched to a no-decision in his last outing and that held his record at 6 – 5 with a 3.24 ERA.  In that start, Strasburg gave up 4 runs on 9 hits (including a home run) in 6 innings of work.  He didn’t issue any walks while striking out 8.  With a few strong outings, Strasburg should be able to improve on last season when he went 8 – 9 with an ERA of 3.00. 

In 2013, Strasburg pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Brewers despite throwing 7 shutout innings.  Only 5 of the current Brewers have ever faced him and of the 5, only 2 have hits.  Mark Reynolds is 1 for 4 and Aramis Ramirez is 1 for 2 against Strasburg.

Marco Estrada notched another one in the win column his last time out and that took his record to 6 – 4 with an ERA of 5.22.  In 5.2 innings of work, Estrada gave up 7 runs and 10 hits (including a home run) as he walked a batter and struck out 7.  Fortunately for him, his offense bailed him out after a less than spectacular outing.  Last season, Estrada was 7 - 4 with a 3.87 ERA in 21 starts.

In 2013, Estrada didn’t face his former team but he has faced many of the hitters in the Washington lineup. He’ll have to watch out for Kevin Frandsen as Frandsen is 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBIs against the righty.
