Monday evening, Jordan Zimmerman will take the hill for the Washington Nationals as they face the Miami Marlins and Brad Hand.  Zimmerman will make his 3rd start of the season as Hand makes his second start. 

Jordan Zimmerman had a very short night his last time on the mound as he lasted just 1.2 innings.  In that start against the Marlins, Zimmerman surrendered 5 runs on 7 hits with a strikeout and 2 walks.  Last year Zimmerman had a solid season, going 19 – 9 in 32 starts with an ERA of 3.25. 

In 2013 Zimmerman was perfect against the Marlins with a 3 – 0 record in 3 starts.  He had 2 complete games and an ERA of 1.50.   Miami’s Giancarlo Stanton will be a challenge for Zimmerman.  Stanton is 4 of 19 with 3 homers and 6 RBIs when facing Zimmerman.

Brad Hand also had a short night in his last start.  Hand gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in just 3.1 innings of work.  Hand will be looking for a much better result in his 2nd start.  The young lefthander spent most of his time in the bullpen last season with just 2 starts and 5 appearances with an ERA of 3.05. 

Hand saw 2 relief appearances against the Nationals last year with just 3 innings of work and a 3.00 ERA.  Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman will be a test for Hand as Zimmerman is 6 of 8 with 4 doubles in his career against him.
