On Tuesday night, right-hander Doug Fister (12-5) will attempt to snap his current two-game losing streak when the Washington Nationals face off against Clayton Kershaw (16-3) and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Doug Fister had one of his worst outings as a member of the Nationals last week when he was beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies on the road. He pitched 5.2 innings in that game and allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 base hits while walking one batter and striking out three. Fister has only walked 16 batters in 130.1 innings this year and he now has a 2.55 ERA.

Dodgers catcher Drew Butera is 2-for-5 against Fister in his career with a double and a strikeout. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez is 3-for-8 against the right-hander with three strikeouts.

Left-hander Clayton Kershaw won his league-best 16th game of the year last Wednesday when he beat the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road. He gave up just one unearned run in eight innings that day while striking out 10 batters and walking two. He now has a very solid 1.73 ERA on the year and he has struck out 10.8 batters per nine innings.

Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth has nine hits in 24 at-bats against Kershaw with two solo home runs. Infielder Danny Espinosa is 1-for-10 against the lefty in his career with no walks and five strikeouts.
