Veteran right-hander Doug Fister will try to pick up his seventh win of the year for the Washington Nationals on Thursday night when he faces Travis Wood and the Chicago Cubs.

Over the weekend, Doug Fister pitched his best game of the season so far on his way to beating the Atlanta Braves on the road. He pitched eight scoreless innings in that game and gave up just five hits while walking one and striking out three. Through nine starts, Fister is 6-2 with an excellent 2.65 ERA and he has only walked six batters in 57.2 innings of work.

Ryan Sweeney has more at-bats than any of the other Cubs against Fister and he is 4-for-10 against him with two doubles and an RBI. Luis Valbuena is just 2-for-8 against the right-hander with one strikeout.

Travis Wood could only make 4.2 innings into his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday and ended up with his sixth loss of the season. He allowed three runs in that game on four hits while walking three and striking out four. He is now 7-6 this year and he has struck out 73 hitters in 89 innings.

Nationals veteran Scott Hairston is hitless against Wood in nine at-bats against him with one strikeout. Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman has two hits against him with a home run and no strikeouts.
