Washington Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez (8-10) will go for his third win in four starts on Wednesday night when they take on second-year starter Alex Wood (10-10) and the Atlanta Braves.

Gio Gonzalez gave up four runs (three earned) in 6.2 innings against the New York Mets on the roads last week and ended up taking the loss. He allowed six hits in that game and struck out seven batters while walking one. On the season, Gonzalez has struck out nine batters per nine innings and he has a 3.79 ERA.

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman has seven hits in his 24 at-bats versus Gonzalez with two doubles, two home runs and nine RBI. Outfielder Justin Upton is 5-for-16 against the lefty with three home runs and four RBI.

Alex Wood ended up with a no decision in his start against the Texas Rangers last Friday despite pitching a very good game. He went seven innings in that outing and gave up just one run on four base hits while striking out nine batters and walking two. Wood has a very good 2.83 ERA on the season and he has struck out 156 batters in 159 innings.

Nationals second baseman Anthony Rendon has eight hits in 13 at-bats against Wood in his career with a walk and a solo home run. First baseman Adam LaRoche is just 1-for-15 against him with no walks and 10 strikeouts.
