Veteran left-hander Gio Gonzalez (6-8) will be looking to end his three-game losing streak when he and the Washington Nationals go up against Alex Wood (7-9) and the Atlanta Braves on Sunday night.

On Tuesday against the New York Mets, Gio Gonzalez had a pretty rough outing and ended up losing his eighth game of the year. He went six innings in that start and allowed four runs on six hits while walking two batters and striking out six. He has struck out 106 batters in 103.1 innings this year and now has a 4.01 ERA.

Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons has six hits in 18 at-bats against Gonzalez with a double, a triple and two home runs. Outfielder Jason Heyward is just 5-for-23 against him with a walk and four strikeouts.

23-year-old Alex Wood pitched six innings against the Seattle Mariners on the road on Tuesday ended up taking he loss. He allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits that day while walking four batters and striking out five. He now has a 3.20 ERA on the year and he has struck out 107 batters in 109.2 innings of work.

Nationals veteran Kevin Frandsen has five hits in 10 at-bats against Wood in his career with a double and an RBI. First baseman Adam LaRoche is just 1-for-11 against the lefty with no walks and six strikeouts.
