Tuesday night, the Toronto Blue Jays will give the ball to Drew Hutchison as they face the Philadelphia Phillies and Cole Hamels.  Hutchison makes his 7th start as Hamels makes his 3rd.

Drew Hutchison saw his record fall to 1 – 2 and his ERA rise to 3.82 after losing his last time out.  In that start, Hutchison pitched 7 innings and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts.  Hutchison is still making his way back from Tommy John surgery and his results have been mixed. 

Before getting injured in 2012, Hutchison pitched just 0.2 innings against the Phillies.  The only Phillies hitter that he has ever faced is Jimmy Rollins and Rollins is 0 for 1. 

Cole Hamels missed his last start due to flu-like symptoms but he will be ready for this start.  In his last outing, Hamels fell to 0 – 2 and his ERA went up to 6.75 after a 4.2 inning effort where he gave up 6 runs on 8 hits with 5 walks and only 3 strikeouts.  The road back from biceps tendonitis appears to be rocky for Hamels.  Last season, he was 8 – 14 with a 3.60 ERA in 33 starts.

In 2013, Hamels didn’t face the Blue Jays but he has experience against many of the hitters in the Toronto lineup.  Jose Reyes has faced Hamels 56 times and owns a career .393 average with 6 doubles and 4 RBIs.
