Monday night, the Toronto Blue Jays will take the field behind J.A. Happ as they take on the Philadelphia Phillies and Kyle Kendrick.  Happ will make his 4th appearance and 1st start of the season as Kendrick makes his 6th start.

J.A. Happ will get the call out of the bullpen for this one as the Blue Jays go to a six-man pitching rotation.  So far this season, Happ has worked out of the bullpen and has a 4.15 ERA in 4.1 innings of work.  Last season, Happ was 5 -7 with an ERA of 4.56 in 18 starts.

In 2013, Happ didn’t get to face his former team but he has some game experience against many of the hitters in the Philadelphia lineup.  Marlon Byrd is 2 of 3 against Happ with 3 RBIs.

Kyle Kendrick has struggled this season and comes into this one with a 0 – 2 record and an ERA of 3.52.  In his last start, Kendrick didn’t get the decision after going 5.2 innings and allowing 2 runs on 10 hits (including a home run) with a walk and  2 strikeouts.  Giving up 10 hits could have produced a worse result than they did, but Kendrick got lucky.  Last season, Kendrick was 10 - 13 with a 4.70 ERA in 30 starts.

In 2013, Kendrick didn’t face the Blue Jays but he has seen the lineup before.  Kendrick will need to pitch around Toronto’s Jose Reyes.  Reyes is a .394 hitter with 2 homer and 4 RBIs against Kendrick.
