Sunday afternoon, Drew Hutchison (10 – 12, 4.51 ERA) will take the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays as they face Masahiro Tanaka (12 – 4, 2.51 ERA) and the New York Yankees.  Hutchison will make his 31st start and Tanaka will make his 19th.

Drew Hutchison was roughed up in his last start and ended up taking the loss.  Hutchison surrendered 6 runs on 5 hits (including 2 homers) through 6.1 innings of work.  He walked 2 and struck out 11.  The 11 strikeouts were a season high for Hutchison but a small comfort considering the outcome of the game.  He had been pitching well until his last time out and will bring a 4 - 3 record in his last 10 starts into this one. Hutchison missed much of the 2013 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Masahiro Tanaka is expected to make the start after a long stint on the disabled list with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL).  The injury possibly affected his performance in his last start back in early July as he took the loss after allowing 5 runs and 10 hits (including 2 homers) in 6.2 innings.  Prior to the injury, Tanaka was on a roll and was 6 -4 in his previous 10 outings.

This season, Tanaka is undefeated in his 2 meetings against the Blue Jays and will look to continue his winning streak in this start.
