Wednesday night, R.A. Dickey will take the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays as they take on the Minnesota Twins and Mike Pelfrey.   Dickey will be making his 4th start as Pelfrey makes his 3rd.

The season hasn’t gone well for Dickey and his 1 – 2 record shows that.  In his last start, he went 7 innings and surrendered 5 runs on 6 hits including 2 home runs.  Dickey struck out 4 but walked 3.  Last season (his first in Toronto), Dickey went 14 - 13 in 34 starts with an ERA of 4.21.  Dickey just doesn’t seem like the pitcher that he was in 2012 when he went 20 – 6 and won the Cy Young Award.

In 2013, Dickey was 1 - 1 with a 6.08 ERA in 2 starts against the Twins.   He gave up 9 runs on 14 hits in 13.1 innings.  Minnesota’s Chris Colabello has only faced Dickey 3 times but he has 2 hits (including a home run) and 3 RBIs.

Mike Pelfrey is winless in his two starts this season and it doesn’t seem like it will get better any time soon.  In his last outing, he gave up 9 hits (including 2 homers) and 6 runs in just 5 innings.  Pelfrey walked 4 and struck out 3.   Last season, Pelfrey went 5 – 13 with an ERA of 5.19 in 29 starts. 

Pelfrey faced the Blue Jays twice and came away with a 1 – 1 record and an ERA of 3.75.  He would be wise to pitch around Maicer Izturis.  Izturis is 5 of 8 against Pelfrey with a .625 career batting average.
