Wednesday night, the Toronto Blue Jays will send R.A. Dickey to the mound to face the Detroit Tigers and Rick Porcello. Dickey will make his 13th start as Porcello makes his 11th.  

R.A. Dickey got away with one in his last start and he got a no-decision despite allowing 5 runs on 10 hits (including a home run) in just 5 innings of work.  He walked 1 while striking out 7.  The knuckleballer brings a 5 - 4 record with a 4.30 ERA into his next start.  Last season, Dickey went 14 – 13 with a 4.21 ERA in 34 starts.

In 2013, Dickey won his one start against the Tigers after allowing 2 runs on 6 hits (including a home run) in 7 innings. He walked 1 and struck out 4.  Dickey could have trouble with the entire Detroit lineup as they are batting a combined .351 with 27 hits, 4 homers and 12 RBIs in 77 at-bats.

Rick Porcello added another win in his last start and that took his record to 8 - 2 with a 3.68 ERA.  In that last outing, Porcello surrendered just 2 runs on 5 hits (including a homer) in 5.2 innings.  But he walked 6 while striking out just 4 as he threw 105 pitches.  Porcello should easily surpass 2013’s record of 13 - 8 and 2013’s ERA of 4.32 in 29 starts and 3 relief appearances.

Last season, Porcello pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Blue Jays after allowing 4 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings.  And the Blue Jays have hit the ball well against Porcello.  Overall, the team is batting .447 with 42 hits (including 7 doubles), 3 homers and 11 RBIs in 94 at-bats against the right-hander.
