On Saturday afternoon, the Toronto Blue Jays will send Mark Buehrle to the mound to face Corey Kluber and the Cleveland Indians.  Both pitchers will be making their 4th starts of the year. 

Mark Buehrle has been impressive in his first three starts of the year.  With a 3 - 0 record and an ERA of 0.86, this season could be one of the best ever for Buehrle.  In his last start, he went 7 innings and surrendered a run on 5 hits.  Last season, Buehrle was 12 – 10 with an ERA of 4.15 in 33 starts.

In 2013, Buehrle faced the Indians once and it wasn’t pretty.  He didn’t get the decision despite allowing 6 runs on 7 hits in 5.1 innings.  If Buehrle has to face Cleveland’s Jason Giambi, he will have to pitch around him.   Giambi is batting .414 with 12 hits (including 4 home runs) and 11 RBIs in 29 at-bats.

Corey Kluber hasn’t been great this season but he has been better than his 1 – 1 record and 5.40 ERA indicates. In his last start, he went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs on 8 hits (including a homer) with 6 strikeouts and no walks.  In 2013, Kluber was 11 – 5 with a 3.85 ERA in 24 starts and 2 relief appearances.

He didn’t face the Blue Jays last season and in his career he has never faced anyone on the Toronto roster.  Some time with the scouting report should help him handle the lineup.
