Sunday afternoon, R.A. Dickey and the Toronto Blue Jays will take on Johnny Cueto and the Cincinnati Reds.  Both pitchers will be making their 16th starts of the year.

R.A. Dickey took the loss his last time out and that dropped his record to 6 – 5 with a 4.08 ERA.  In the loss, Dickey surrendered 3 runs on 6 hits (including a home run) in 6.2 innings of work as he walked 2 and struck out 4.  The knuckleballer had some groin issues but since his start was pushed back a few extra days, it’s believed that he should be fine to take the hill on Sunday.  So far, Dickey seems on pace to match his results from last season, when he went 14 – 13 with a 4.21 ERA in 34 starts.

In 2013, Dickey didn’t face the Reds but he is familiar with their lineup.  And Cincinnati has hit Dickey well as they bring a .316 average with 26 hits, 4 homers and 8 RBIs in 83 at-bats prior to this contest.

Johnny Cueto pitched to a no-decision in his last outing and that held his record at 6 – 5 with a 1.92 ERA.  The last time out, Cueto allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings.  He walked 4 while only striking out a season-low 2 batters. But Cueto has been turning in some solid outings although his record might not indicate it.  He is piling up the strikeouts and he has already improved on his win total from 2013 when he was 5 – 2 with a 2.82 ERA in 11 starts.

Last season, Cueto didn’t face the Blue Jays but he has seen many of their hitters before.  Overall, Toronto is batting .311 against Cueto with 19 hits, a home run and 5 RBIs in 61 at-bats.
