Monday night, Marcus Stroman (10 – 5, 3.61 ERA) gets the call for the Toronto Blue Jays as they face Wei-Yin Chen (15 -4, 3.49 ERA) and the Baltimore Orioles.  Stroman makes his 19th start and 24th appearance as Chen makes his 29th start.  

Marcus Stroman picked up his 3rd straight victory in his last start.  In the win, Stroman went the distance for the complete game shutout after surrendering just 3 hits without issuing any walks and striking out 8. It was the 1st complete game shutout of his career.   The last few weeks have seen some solid starts from Stroman and he is 6 – 3 in his last 10 outings. Prior to coming up to the Blue Jays, Stroman was 2 -4 with a 3.03 ERA in 7 starts at Triple-A.

Stroman hasn’t faced the Orioles this season but he has seen 2 of the current Baltimore hitters before.  Alejandro De Aza is 1 for 3 against Stroman, while Kelly Johnson is 2 for 5.

Wei-Yin Chen turned in another decent performance his last time out and his efforts earned him the win.  In 7 innings of work, Chen gave up a run (on a solo homer) and 3 hits while striking out 4 without issuing any walks.  Chen has been a solid contributor to the Baltimore starting rotation and is an impressive 6 - 1 in his last 10 starts.  He was 7 – 7 with a 4.07 ERA in 23 starts during the 2013 campaign.

Chen didn’t face the Blue Jays last season but he has seen some action against Toronto this season.  He lost his lone start against Toronto earlier this year after allowing 4 runs and 8 hits (including a homer) in 5 innings.
