Wednesday afternoon, the Texas Rangers will give the ball to Colby Lewis (8 – 11, 5.54 ERA) as they square off against the Seattle Mariners and Felix Hernandez (13 – 4, 2.07 ERA).  It will be the 24th start for Lewis and the 28th for Hernandez.

Colby Lewis dropped his 3rd straight game in his last start.  Lewis surrendered 4 runs and 6 hits (including 2 home runs) in 6 innings of work.  He struck out 2 without issuing any walks. Lewis has run the gamut in his last few outings as he has at times displayed brilliance and at other times, displayed mediocrity.  In his last 10 trips to the mound, Lewis is 3 - 6.  Lewis missed all of 2013 with right elbow surgery and right hip surgery.

Lewis started the season at Triple-A Round Rock but after getting called up, he made his 1st start of the season against Seattle.  In 3 starts against the Mariners this season, Lewis is 0 – 2. 

Felix Hernandez turned in a decent start his last time out but he still didn’t get the decision.  In 5.2 innings of work, Hernandez surrendered 3 runs (on a 3 run homer) and 5 hits as he walked 2 and struck out 7.  The 3 runs were the most for Hernandez since the middle of May.  Although he is 5 - 2 in his last 10 starts, he could have easily won more games if he had received some run support.  Last season, Hernandez was 12 - 10 with a 3.04 ERA in 31 starts.

In 2013, Hernandez struggled against Texas and went 0 – 4 with a 7.57 ERA in 5 starts.  This season, he is 0 – 1 in 3 starts against the Rangers.
