On Tuesday night, rookie Nick Martinez (3-9), who is coming off of one of his best starts of the year, will be on the mound for the Texas Rangers when they go up against James Paxton (3-1) and the Seattle Mariners.

Nick Martinez pitched six solid innings against the Miami Marlins on the road last week and was able to pick up his third win of the season. He allowed just two runs in six innings of work in that game while walking two batters and striking out seven. Martinez still has a high 5.13 ERA this season and he has given up 116 hits in 100 innings on the mound.

Mariners outfielder Austin Jackson has two hits in five plate appearances against Martinez with two RBI and now strikeouts. Catcher Mike Zunino is 0-for-3 against Martinez with no walks and two strikeouts.

James Paxton lost for the first time in six starts last Wednesday when he was beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies on the road. He made it through just four innings in that outing and gave up four runs on seven base hits while walking two batters and striking out five. He still has a very good 2.20 ERA and he has struck out 29 hitters in 32.2 innings of work.

The Rangers' batters will all be going up against Paxton for the first time in their careers on Tuesday. Left-handed batters are hitting just .179 against him through 28 at-bats.
