Tuesday night, Nick Martinez and the Texas Rangers square off against Chase Whitley and the New York Yankees. Martinez makes his 12^th start and 17^th appearance as Whitley makes his 12^th start and 13^th appearance.

Nick Martinez took his 2^nd straight loss the last time out and that lowered his record to 1 - 6 with a 5.10 ERA. In that outing, Martinez was torched for 8 runs on 7 hits (including 3 homers) in 5 innings. He walked a batter and struck out 1. But, that start was over three weeks ago after Martinez went on the 15 Day DL with a left oblique injury. He is supposed to be well enough for this start and time will tell if the injury will be a further issue.

Martinez has never faced the Yankees and will need the guidance that a good scouting report can provide to help him come up with a plan of action against the New York lineup.

Chase Whitley lost his last start and that dropped his record to 4 - 3 with a 5.10 ERA. In the loss, Whitley allowed 3 runs and 5 hits (including a home run) in 3.2 innings of work. He walked 2 batters and struck out 4. Whitley started out strong but has backed off that hot pace in recent starts. With the injuries in the New York starting rotation, more will be expected out of the young right-handed reliever pressed into a starting role.

This will be Whitley's first outing against the Rangers and he will have to make good use of the scouting report to find a way to get past Texas.
