On Friday night, Nick Tepesch will try to use the momentum from his great start last week when he and the Texas Rangers take on Jonathon Niese and the New York Mets.

Big right-hander Nick Tepesch pitched 7.1 scoreless innings against the Minnesota Twins last Friday and ended up picking up his third win of the year. He gave up just three hits in that game and walked two batters while striking out five. Through eight starts, Tepesch is 3-3 for the Rangers, but his walks are up and his strikeouts are down from his 2013 season.

Outfielder Chris Young is the only player on the Mets who has gone up against Tepesch. He is 1-for-3 versus the right-hander with a single and no strikeouts.

Last Saturday, Jonathon Niese won his second game in a row and his fifth overall when he was able to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road. He went 6.1 innings in that outing and allowed three earned runs seven hits while striking out five batters and walking three. Niese is now 5-4 on the year for the Mets with a very solid 2.88 ERA.

Rangers veteran third baseman Adrian Beltre has one hit in his three at-bats against Niese with a home run and a strikeout. Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is 2-for-7 against him in his career with a triple and a walk.
