Sunday afternoon, Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers will take on Tyler Skaggs and the Los Angeles Angels.  Both pitchers will be making their 6th starts of the season.

Yu Darvish saw his record fall to 1 – 1 and his ERA rise to 2.59 after taking the loss in his last start.  The outing was Darvish’s worst of the season after he lasted just 3.1 innings and surrendered 4 runs (all earned) on 6 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. After surrendering no runs in his first two starts, Darvish has surrendered 9 in his last 3 starts. Last season, Darvish was 13 - 9 with an ERA of 2.83 in 32 starts.

In 2013, Darvish was 3 – 0 with a 3.04 ERA in 4 starts against the Angels.  Darvish has pitched well against the Angels but he will need to be careful with Mike Trout.  Trout is batting .321 with 4 homers and 6 RBIs against Darvish.

Tyler Skaggs comes into this one after pitching to a no decision in his last start.  His record stayed at 2 – 0 and his ERA went up slightly to 3.34 after 7 innings of work where he allowed 3 runs (all on a three run homer) on 4 hits with a walk and 6 strikeouts. The 6 strikeouts were the most so far this season for him.  Last season, Skaggs was 2 – 3 with an ERA of 5.12 in 7 starts.

In 2013, Skaggs won his only start against the Rangers after pitching 6 innings of shutout ball and allowing just 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 9.    Texas’ Jurickson Profar is the only current Ranger to have a hit against Skaggs.
