Sunday night, Yu Darvish gets the call for the Texas Rangers as they square off against Matt Shoemaker and the Los Angeles Angels.  Darvish makes his 14th start as Shoemaker makes his 7th start and 12th appearance.

Yu Darvish comes into this one with a 7- 2 record and an ERA of 2.39 after losing his last start.  In that outing, Darvish was touched up for 7 runs and 8 hits in just 5 innings of work.  He walked 5 while striking out 8.  Prior to the loss, Darvish had won 4 straight while averaging 9 strikeouts per victory.  He is still in line to match or better his results from 2013 when he went 13 – 9 with a 2.83 ERA in 32 starts.

Last season, Darvish was 3- 0 with a 3.04 ERA in 4 starts against the Angels.  This season, he got a win against Los Angeles after surrendering 3 runs on 7 hits (including 2 homers) in 6.1 innings as he walked a batter and struck out 9.

Matt Shoemaker boosted his record to 4 – 1 and lowered his ERA to 3.83 after picking up the win in his last outing.  In that start, Shoemaker gave up just 2 runs on 5 hits (including a home run) in 8 innings of work. He walked a batter and struck out 10.  Shoemaker looks like he will provide the Angels with some solid innings as the season progresses.  In his rookie campaign in 2013, Shoemaker started 1 game and pitched 5 innings of scoreless ball with just 2 hits, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts en route to a no-decision.

Without any experience against the Rangers, Shoemaker’s best friend will be the scouting report as he looks for an edge against the Texas lineup.
