Friday night, Colby Lewis will take the hill for the Texas Rangers as they face Hector Santiago and the Los Angeles Angels. Lewis will be making his 4th start of the season as Santiago makes his 6th. 

Colby Lewis started the season at the Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate before getting called up in mid April.  Since then, he is 1 – 1 with an ERA of 4.60.  Lewis pitched to a no decision in his last start after a 5 inning effort where he surrendered 3 runs on 5 hits (including 2 homers) with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. 

Due to the lingering effects of elbow surgery as well as bone spurs in his right hip, Lewis missed the entire 2013 season.   But he has seen many of the hitters on the Los Angeles roster.  Lewis will need to keep a close eye on Brennan Boesch.  Boesch is 5 of 18 with 3 home runs and 5 RBIs against Lewis.

Hector Santiago is still trying to get that first mark in the win column after his last start dropped him to 0 – 4.  His ERA rose to 4.44 after the 4.1 inning effort where he surrendered 4 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) with a walk and 3 strikeouts.   Last season, with the Chicago White Sox, Santiago went 4 – 9 with an ERA of 3.56 in 23 starts and 11 relief appearances. 

In 2013, Santiago was 1 – 0 with an ERA of 2.31 in 2 starts against the Rangers.  Texas’s Prince Fielder has hit Santiago well in the past.  Fielder is 5 of 12 for a batting average of .417 when facing the left-hander.
