Sunday afternoon, Colby Lewis and the Texas Rangers will square off against Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers.  Lewis will be making his 8th start as Verlander makes his 11th.

Colby Lewis saw his record drop to 3 – 3 and his ERA rise to 5.409 after taking the loss in his last outing.  In that start, Lewis surrendered 5 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings as he walked 3 and struck out 6. Lewis is on track to equal or better his numbers from 2013 when he went 6 - 6 with a 3.43 ERA in 16 starts.

Last season, Lewis didn’t get the decision in his lone start against the Tigers.  In that outing, Lewis allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings of work.  The Tigers have hit well off of Lewis and he will need to watch out for nearly the entire Detroit lineup. 

Justin Verlander took the loss in his last outing and that dropped his record to 5 – 3 with a 3.55 ERA.  Verlander didn’t look good as he gave up 5 runs on 11 hits in 6 innings of work.  He walked 3 while only striking out 2.  Despite this start, Verlander is still on track to better last year’s results when he went 13 - 12 with a 3.46 ERA in 34 starts.

In 2013, Verlander was 1 – 1 with a 7.45 ERA in 2 starts against the Rangers.  In just 9.2 innings of work, Verlander surrendered 8 runs on 7 hits.  His toughest opposition might be Shin-Soo Choo, because Choo is batting .240 with 2 homers and 4 RBIs against the veteran right-hander.
