On Monday night, Coors Field will be home to an interleague game between the Texas Rangers and the Colorado Rockies. The visiting Rangers will send left hander Martin Perez to the hill to take on right hander Jordan Lyles.

Perez, the Venezuela native has gone 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA this season including a 26 inning shutout streak that covered 3 starts. He pitched back-to-back complete game shutouts, first against the Chicago White Sox and then against the Oakland Athletics. In his last start, the Athletics returned the favor by roughing him up for 8 earned runs on 8 hits and 3 walks in just 4 2/3 innings. Perez is now 15-11 in his career and will get added experience against a roster of players he hasn’t seen yet. Only Brandon Barnes, Justin Morneau and Drew Stubbs have faced him before.

Lyles spent the first 3 seasons of his career with the Houston Astros and so far through the first 6 starts the 2014 season with the Rockies, has given up just 11 earned runs in 36 2/3 innings. His performance with the Rockies is far better than any stretch during his career with the Astros and Colorado is hoping that he can continue that success against the Rangers. Current Texas players are hitting .347 (25-for-72) against him including .429 by Prince Fielder, .353 for Adrian Beltre and .385 for Elvis Andrus.
