Wednesday afternoon, the Texas Rangers will give the ball to Nick Tepesch (3 – 7, 4.84 ERA) as they square off against the Chicago White Sox and Chris Sale (10 – 1, 2.09 ERA).  It will be the 13th start and 14th appearance for Tepesch and the 18th start for Sale.

Nick Tepesch took another loss in his last outing after giving up 3 runs and 4 hits (including 2 home runs) in 6 innings of work. He struck out 2 and didn’t issue any walks.  Tepesch got his last victory in last June and is just 1 – 7 in his last 10 appearances.  During his rookie campaign in 2013, Tepesch started 17 games and made 2 relief appearances as he compiled a 4 – 6 record with a 4.84 ERA. 

Last season, Tepesch lost his only start against the White Sox after getting rocked for 5 runs and 8 hits (including 2 homers) in 6.2 innings. The 6 White sox that have faced Tepesch before are batting .412 against him with 7 hits, 2 homers and 3 RBIs in 17 at-bats.

Chris Sale was lucky to escape with a no-decision in his last outing after surrendering 5 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings.  He walked a batter while striking out 7.  But Sale has been nothing short of dominant this season. He took his only loss back in mid-June and is 5 – 1 in his last 10 starts.  It’s been a big turnaround considering the fact that in 2013, Sale was 11 – 14 with a 3.07 ERA in starts.  

Last season, Sale was 1 – 1 with a 6.43 ERA in 2 starts against the Rangers.  Texas is batting .219 against Sale with 21 hits, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs in 96 at-bats.
