A couple of Venezuelan lefties take the mound as Texas' Martin Perez (0-0) and Boston's Felix Doubront (1-0) do work for game two of a three game set at Fenway. Perez allowed only two runs in his first start of the season on April 1st against Philly but it wasn't enough as the Rangers fell 2-3. The Rangers are easing the 23-year-old into his first full-year in the rotation as he threw just 83 pitches in 5.2 innings last week.

Perez did start 20 games last season and compiled a 10-6 record with a 3.62 ERA. Perez has started only 1 game against Boston in his career, going 5 innings and allowing 1 run back in 2012. Only 3 current Red Sox have ever faced Perez with Jonny Gomes going 2 for 6, Will Middlebrooks 2 for 3, and Dustin Pedroia 2 for 3.

Felix Doubront started off well on his quest for a third straight 10+ win season, earning a victory on April 3rd over the Orioles. Doubront went 5.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on just 6 hits. He should be fresh heading into start two after throwing only 73 pitches in the win.

Doubront needs to regain his confidence against Texas after getting blasted by them in his only start a year ago. Doubront entered his 5th start of 2013 after winning three straight but gave up 6 ER in just 3.2 IP against the Rangers including a 5-run fourth inning. Doubront will be glad to see Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz leave Arlington as the current Rangers lineup is hitting only .264 against the pitcher including Shin-Soo-Choo (0-4) and Prince Fielder (0-6).
