Wednesday night, the Tampa Bay Rays and Chris Archer will face the Toronto Blue Jays and Liam Hendriks.  Archer will be making his 11th start as Hendriks makes his 2nd. 

Chris Archer was impressive in his last start but he still had to settle for a no-decision that left his record at 3 – 2 with an ERA of 4.11.  Archer pitched 6 scoreless innings and allowed just 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 11.  Archer has pitched better than his numbers indicate and he should be beat last year’s record of 9 – 7 with an ERA of 3.22 in 23 starts.

In 2013, Archer was 1 – 0 with a 1.65 ERA in 3 starts against the Blue Jays.  This season, Archer started his year off with a win over Toronto after allowing 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings of work. 

Liam Hendriks won his first start of the season the last time out and he comes into this game with a 1 – 0 record and an ERA of 1.59.  Hendriks allowed a run (on a solo homer) on 3 hits in 5.2 innings in his season debut as he walked 3 and struck out 3.   Hendriks was 5 – 0 with an ERA of 1.46 in 7 starts and 2 relief appearances for Toronto’s Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo before getting the call-up  the same day as his first start.  Last season, Hendriks was 1 – 3 with an ERA of 6.85 in 8 starts and 2 relief appearances for the Minnesota Twins.

In 2013, Hendriks didn’t get to face the Rays but he has some experience against 5 batters on the Tampa Bay roster.  Tampa Bay’s Matt Joyce is 2 for 2 with a solo homer against Hendriks.
